here’s a report on our new Dojo.
Our New Dojo is finally here!!
This issue is a report on the progress of the New Dojo for Tohkon Judo Academy.
First of all, the funding (donations) that I started in December 15th has closed as of the 31st of January. The warm support from everyone totaled a whopping
1,778,000 JPY (Approx $12,000) which includes 10 individuals requesting the “My Tatami”
With your generous support, we are able to procure Tatamis as well as other peripheral equipment vital for the DOJO. Thank you again.
The basement of the New Dojo is almost complete and on Sunday, January 21st, under freezing conditions, volunteers (including myself, of course) carried goods from the old Dojo to the new. Here’s some photos.

1st Floor Dojo Area (BIG!!)

Basement will be a workout gym, but it’s gonna start out as storage.
The rear of the 1st floor – locker rooms, shower areas… Without the drywall, it still looks like DIY setup.
This area has a loft where you can view practices as well as matches.
Deadline of the move is End of March – we need to pick it up!!
- Feb 7th: Inspection of the frames complete
- Feb 9th: Official signing of the acquisition
- Feb 14th: Water and HVAC complete
- Feb 20th: Insulation Work complete
- Feb 29th: Drywall and painting complete
- Feb 29th: Final approval of bank loan – closing
＊Up to here were self-funded – the loan will be for 35 years. - Mar 1st ~ 5th: Floor Installation complete
- Mar 5th ~ 14th: Tatami Frame and Tatami installation complete
*to minimize expenditure, we will mix new and existing Tatami mats.
Installation will be handled by persons involved with the Dojo (any volunteers are welcome!!) - Mar 17th ~29th: Delivery of peripherals and final check
- Mar 31st: Complete Move
- Apr 1st: Operation in New Dojo commences!!
- Apr 14th: New Dojo Opening Ceremony
