After my arrival on April 4th, I started by 4 days/week lessons at the partner dojo (Tohkon Judo Academy) starting on the 6th.
The smiles and the effort of kids are the best vitamins for me! (see photo)
However, in my personal life, it was a VERY BUSY 2 weeks.
- I had a 3 hour interrogation at immigration. They did let me in, but I will require a VISA next time…
- I had a problem with my ears and had my first doctors visit (Nihon Clinic) Struggled to find the prescription drugs, and ended up searching through 4 pharmacies. What I had taken for granted in Japan takes 4x the time here!!
- Got a parking ticket – I just parked for 15 minutes!!! Get me my $60 back!!
- Inaugural GKJN Board Meeting on April 9th. Approval was granted for the 2nd half activity plan.
- COVID-19 vaccination (1st dose) completed (April 16th) light side affects. 2nd dose scheduled for May 12th.
- Was invited to the home of Counsel General (April 17th) Reported our activities together with Doug Tono (Tohkon Owner) and received remarks for the full backup support from Counsel General, Mr. Okada!!
As you can see above, everyday is an Adventure in itself, but its full of excitement!! My plan is to stay until mid-June. In preparation for my “real” activities, I need to acquire my VISA in time for the 3rd Chicago Youth Judo Competition (GKJN Cup) scheduled in September. I also need to build my relationship with USA Judo. While working hard on my classes, I will endeavor to do anything I can.
